Rommel, Erwin
Definition
(Noun) A famous German WWII general. Implicated (falsely, it's generally believed) in "Generals' Plot Day," the 7/20/44 plot many German generals (and other senior officers) to blow up Hitler and end the war - or at least to seek peace. Hitler lived, the plot failed, and many generals were hanged - by piano wire. Rommel, a national hero, was offered the choice between suicide and trial by the People's Court (which almost always handed down a death sentence). Rommel chose suicide.
