Definition

Skinheads were not a reaction to hippies. They first appeared in 1965/66 in a return to the original Mod ivy league style,this look also incorporated the Jamaican rude boy fashion and later the Bootboy look of the football terraces. The original Skinhead cult was not all white or racist,there were all black gangs known as afro boys; music was Jamaican Reggae and Black American soul. By 1969/70 Skinheads in the major British cities had developed into Suedeheads,again a return to the early Mod style.
