SKINC

Definition

SKINC rate
(Abbreviation) Sub-Kiloton Insertable Nuclear Charge (US Navy) : A small nuclear charge inserted into certain US munitions capable of carrying multiple payload types. Typical SKINC yields are equal to or less than one tenth of a kiloton. Typical uses for SKINC charges included depth charges and torpedoes. An Army version, the SADM (Special Atomic Demolition Munition), used the initiator components from a W-79 nuclear artillery shell. What warhead the SKINC was derived from is unknown to the author.

Both the SKINC and SADM are no longer fielded by US forces.
Usage: The submarine's skipper wasn't sure his single remaining Mk48 would sink the enemy ship, so he ordered the explosive warhead replaced with a SKINC to insure the kill.
