serif
Definitions
(Noun) A decorative foot attached to the end of a printed character.(Noun) (Printing) A typeface that has thicks-and-thins, flanges, etc. Its opposite is sans-serif.
Usage: Most books/newspapers/magazines are printed in serif - because, after all, it is easier to read when large bodies of text are involved. But sans-serif is probably better for short/fast comprehension - e.g., highway signs, definition-of.com, etc.
