infrastructure
Definitions
(Noun) the structure of an organization or system.Usage: The United States is composed of the infrastructure of its technology, military, government, residents, and its society.
(Noun) The basic set-up needed to maintain operations.
(Noun) Roads/highways/telephones/buildings/dams/railroads, etc. A social infrastructure might be defined as a less-traditional infrastructure. E.g., not a school building, but a place where children are educated. ("Give a man a fish and he will not go hungry for one evening. Teach a man to fish and he will not go hungry for a lifetime.")
(Noun) A system for delivering services
Usage: This is a more specific definition for it makes it possible to show infrastructure as different from, though still closely related, to services. Infrastructure provides, as it were, the physical medium necessary for services to be provided.
