(Noun) (Italian, but it's how you say it in English as well): An Italian cathedral that's the seat of a bishop; informally, an major Italian city's main and/or principal church.Usage: Santa Maria del Fiore is Florence's duomo in both senses of the word: "The bishop of Florence, usually a cardinal, could stroll just a few steps across the piazza to his 'seat' - which happens to be the biggest church in the city.
