detumescence of the clitoris

Or: clitoral detumesence, the return of an erect clitoris to its natural size and state after orgasm. The cessation of sexual stimuli causes the reduction of engorgement (vasocongestion) in the erectile tissues of the clitoris; clitoral detumescence is much slower than penile detumescence requiring anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes if orgasm is achieved; if not, the clitoris may remain in erection for 12 to 24 hours resulting in considerable discomfort.
