(Expression) To become financially profitable - usually after being "in the red" - unprofitable - for a long period.

Usage: "Black Friday" - the day after Thanksgiving - is so called because traditionally it's the day when department-and-similar-stores, after being more-or-less unprofitable all year, start heading "into the black" because of the Christmas rush.
