austerian

Definition

austerian rate
(Noun) one who demands cuts in government spending during a recession.

Also adjective: pertaining to the economic theory that a reduction of government spending is a better solution to the problem of a recession than that proposed by Keynes.

In both cases, see "austerity."
Usage: "But the great policy debate of recent years between Keynesians, who advocate sustaining and, indeed, increasing government spending in a depression, and austerians, who demand immediate spending cuts, comes close — at least in the world of ideas." Paul Krugman, "The One Percent's Solution," The New York Times, 26 April 2013, p. A31.

"And this makes one wonder how much difference the intellectual collapse of the austerian position will actually make." Paul Krugman, "The One Percent's Solution," New York Times, 26 April 2013, p. A31.
