Jorgensen
Definition
Christine Jorgensen, the first transsexual in history, was George, an American ex-GI. He was operated on in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1950, by Christian Hamburger. George, who later took the name Christine Jorgensen, was castrated under provisions of the Danish Sterilization and Castration Act of 1935, which allowed castration for patients whose sexuality made them likely to commit crimes or suicide. His penis was removed in 1952, but no attempt was ever made to construct a vagina.
