(Noun) Abbreviated DP; A computer-controlled system to automatically maintain a vessel's position and heading by integrating the control of vessel propellers, rudders, and thrusters. Primarily used by offshore energy vessels.Usage: The offshore supply vessel safely maintained position alongside the drilling rig using a Dynamic Positioning system.
