(Noun) In some African cultures, the maternal uncle, which holds greater authority than fathers and has the authority to accept and remove members of smaller family units--often comprised of three generations. Also exercises supreme jural and religious authority within his local kinship group.Usage: The siblings' wofa provided his nephew with advice and resources during his transition to manhood, and gave approval to his niece's prospective husband before she married.
