E.g., to old-time Catholic Americans, the vernacular for the Latin Mass was - in English; for Italians - in Italian; for Spaniards - in Spanish ... .
"Vernacular" sometimes verges on idiom, sometimes on informal usage, sometimes on slang or argot ... .
