(Noun) The distinct spelling of "tripawd" was first suggested by Jim Nelson of Eureka, CA in the fall of 2006 when his dog Jerry had his front leg amputated due to bone cancer (osteosarcoma). Nelson heard three legged dogs referred to as "tripod dogs" and coined the term Tripawd to empower the word.
