To perform cunnilingus, based on velvet meaning both the tongue and the vagina. This expression, of British origin, was first recorded in the 17 ^th century. See cunnilingus for synonyms. In his Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1811), Captain Francis Grose defines velvet as: ' To tip the velvet; to put one's tongue into a woman's mouth.' Grose may be refering to French kissing or to a woman's silent mouth, the vagina.
