Squelch
Definitions
(Verb) To smother, squash or stiffle.Usage: "Assigning the kids pages of homework, the teacher squelched any hope for a fun weekend."
To squeeze
a sound or noise of a squish
An electric circuit that suppresses the output of a radio (or video) receiver if the signal strength falls below a certain level as set by the squelch control.
Usage: I walked into the empty dispatchers office to a cacophony of static. So I reached for the radio and turned the squelch up till the radio fell silent.
