salmagundi
Definition
(Noun) A tasty-but improbable salad of whatever the preparer had handy: meats/seafood/vegetables/sometimes nuts, etc. The dressing: oil/vinegar/spices - often heavy on the pepper. (The few restaurants that serve salmagundi have obviously standardized the recipe for their establishment.)Usage: Salmagundi was popular in Britain and America in the 18th-century, but is rarely seen nowadays.
