q.v.
Definition
(Abbreviation) Abbreviation for the Latin quod vide, generally used in the context of "described elsewhere in this document". In the days before document production systems could do cross-references by page number, use of this abbreviation removed the need to do proofreading of every cross-reference to verify that it named the correct page. It is a means of condensing a definition or explanation so that material which already exists does not have to be replicated. In online documents, this is superseded by the use of hyperlinks.Usage: In a printed document, a reference might be of the form "...this is superseded by the use of hyperlinks (q.v)."
