muckraker
Definitions
(Noun) public watchdog(Noun) Negative: someone who rakes muck - i.e., makes something out of nothing. Positive: someone who exposes behavior/actions that are ethically-dubious and even criminal.
Usage: "The Unindicted Co-conspirator," saw Carl Bernstein/Bob Woodward (All the President's Men) as muckrakers (negative), but the positive view is that virtually everyone else knew Nixon was guilty as sin.
