monophthong
Definition
a pure vowel sound in which the tongue remains in the same position through the vowel sound, i.e. we need just one position of the tongue in order to pronounce the sound /i:/ which is bringing the tongue close to the hard palate then push out the air, like in the word "see" > /si:/.
