1. C19 ^th British term for the female genitals, based on the standard definition of the word, a machine for ironing laundry by passing it between rollers. This os one of many eurotophobic (fear of the female genitalia) metaphors for the vagina viewed as a dangerous place. This one dates back to the 19 ^th century. See vagina for synonyms.
