(Expression) to provide some sort of temporary support until the proper item can be supplied.
Usage: 'We jacked up a barbecue from an old oven tray and some charcoal because Tim never turned up with the gas-fired barbecue as he promised. OR 'The window had to be jacked up with a piece of wood when the sash broke.'
