An obsolete designation for a homosexual male or female, based on the idea that homosexual people turn inward to their own sex rather than outward to the opposite sex. Also dated or outdated are the related terms: absolute invert, amphigenic invert, and contingent invert.
ETYMOLOGY: According to one source this word was coined prior to 1611, before publication of the King James Version.
