Or: inter-menstrual bleeding / IMB , the presence of blood or a discharge of brownish mucus between regular menstrual periods.
SYNONYMS: spotting; staining.
IMB is known as:
-- breakthrough bleeding when occurs while on the oral contraceptive pill;
-- premenstrual spotting , if it happens over a few days before a period starts properly;
-- postcoital bleeding , if it happens after sex.
