(Noun) A sea mostly surrounded by land, and often dominating the world view and culture of surrounding area.Usage: Since ancient days, the Mediterranean was recognized as a very important political/cultural inland sea (not just a geographical one) because it touched on three continents with so many cultures/important nations - at one time or another over the millennia. (E.g.: don't think "Greece today" but Greece 500 B.C.,
