The conscious or unconscious blocking of certain natural behaviors or impulses, usually resulting from such factors as emotional insecurity, fear of consequences, moral qualms, social or cultural forces, guilt; the condition inducing this restraint.SYNONYMS: barrier; block; hang-up (hangup); shyness.
