ideolepsis
Definition
(Noun) A state of being so convinced of one diagnosis or conclusion that all other rational alternatives are discarded.Origin: Greek "Ideo" = idea and Greek "lepsis" = captured or seized.
First used by the surgeon FA Simeone (Ann Surg 1963, 158; 759-774).
Usage: The doctor, having made up his mind that the patient had this disease, could entertain no alternative. He was suffering from ideolepsis.
