heir presumptive

Definition

heir presumptive rate
(Noun) The person next in line to the throne unless someone else is born who has a greater claim. In England, sexist, any male regardless of age supersedes any female - and in sexist-to-the-max France, a female cannot become monarch under any circumstances.
Usage: Elizabeth, George VI's elder daughter, was heir presumptive until her ascension because if the king had had a new-born son, that son would've become heir apparent automatically.
