hang, draw and quarter

Definition

hang, draw and quarter rate
(Verb) Archaic mode of execution in which the soon-to-be-deceased is hanged, cut down while still alive, cut open (drawn) - and, with ropes tied to his limbs at one end and horses at the other, torn apart.
Usage: At the end of Braveheart, William Wallace Mel Gibson is hanged and drawn, but not hanged, drawn and quartered - maybe because that would be too gruesome.
