(Noun) A derogatory word used for Korean people, though later used for Asian people in general, exemplified during the Vietnam War. Thought to have derived from when U.S. soldiers arrived in Korea during the war. Korean people would say to the soldiers, "Me-gook," causing soldiers to think the Korean people were calling themselves "gooks." The Korean word "Me-gook" means "American."
