fortress rate
(Noun) Or "fort". A big building that's, well, 'fortified" - battlements, thick walls, slit windows to shoot arrows down while protected, maybe moats, etc. Meant as a defense against attackers. (Old to archaic.)
Usage: A castle, if old enough to once have been subject to attack, might be called a fortress. "Windsor Castle," "Buckingham Palace".
