fluence
Definition
(Noun) 1. energy intensity (ex. joules) per unit area (ex. cm^2: sq. centimeters, or m^2: sq.meter). Note: examples of power like kW-Hr (1 kiloWatt for 1 Hour) and BTU (British Thermal Units -- often used in heating and cooling) equal 3.6 million and about 1055 joules, respectively.Fluence is often used in talking about Lasers, medical X-rays, radiation, and lighting in plant biology. Note. Energy intensity isn't the same as brightness, as brightness only refers to the power (light) that is visible to the eyes.
2. sometimes use in slang as a shortening of "fluency".
Usage: Depending on skin color, laser fluence and pulse duration may need to be adjusted.
