(Noun) (in emergency services) freeing a victim from mechanical or artificial entanglement such as a car or machinery; differentiated from the term rescue which is removal of a victim from natural entanglement or entrapment such as in a cave or from waterUsage: "Engine One is on scene, two vehicles involved, one patient requires extrication."
