Definition
(Noun) A peaked hat 'awarded' to a student for particularly stupid or illiterate performance in class. This is no longer acceptable for teachers, but was common before about 1970, particularly in midwestern schools in the USA.Usage: It was the third time he had failed to answer his teacher correctly, and so was given the dunce cap and told to sit in the corner until lunchtime.
