dissect
Definitions
(Verb) Re pronunciations:From the Oxford University Press Reference Series, Fowler's Modern English Usage:"DISSECT means 'to cut into pieces'. not 'to cut into two'; in other words, it is formed on the prefix dis-, not di-. The pronunciation is therefore di-SEKT, not diy-SEKT, although the second is often heard, probably under the invluence of bisect.
It would seem then that the pronunciation dI_-sekt is incorrect
Usage: Medical students are taught human anatomy by having to dissect a human cadaver.
(Verb) take apart
(Verb) to cut into smaller parts. to take apart
Usage: We dissected a frog in science class
