1. In the late 1920s, a girl who was not only good-looking but also modern in her views on dating and necking; a liberated woman of her day.

2. From the 1960s onward, any female, more often young, usually but not necessarily, attractive. Sometimes modified: slick chick , a stylish young woman; hip chick , a hipster.
Etymology: Arose in the 15 ^th century as a shortened form of chicken, a newly hatched fowl. Thus chick implies youth.
