caterwaul

(Noun) the sound of a screeching or howling cat, generally in mating time; can also be used to describe the way a person singsUsage: Her singing voice sounds like more of a caterwaul than anything else.
(Noun) Any living thing screeching. Cats can caterwaul; so can dogs; so can people moaning or even just arguing, if loudly and discordantly enough.
Usage: The orchestra's playing was so bad that one music critic described it as "mere caterwauling".
