Colloquial term for a brothel or house of prostitution. See brothel for synonyms.Etymology: First recorded in English in Ben Jonsons (1572-1637) comedy Every Man in His Humour (1598). Bordello is a borrowing from the Italian, through the Old French bordel, meaning, at the time, a small house, today a brothel.
