bocage

Definition

bocage rate
French for boscage (a thicket, usually one that forms a boundary between properties). So what, except that the 1944 Normandy Invasion was at first greatly slowed down by having to be fought in what is traditionally called bocage country (or the bocage), not boscage country.
Usage: Over the centuries, the Norman bocage had become impacted/impenetrable earth.
