1. When first coined, during the Jazz Age, it referred to a tramp or prostitute, then a promiscuous flapper, and finally a dumb woman.2. The term gained popularity through the detective novels of the 1930s which portrayed her as a beautiful but dumb blonde who is taken out for a night on the town in exchange for sexual favors.
