Definition
(Noun) a macromolecule ( i.e. protein, polysaccharide, lipoprotein, or glycolipid) that elicits an immune response. Exogenous antigens are brought into the body from the external environment (ingestion, inhalation) and endogenous antigens are generated by cells in the body (host cells infected by a virus).Usage: The flower's pollen acted as an antigen causing my eyes to water.
