abstractionist
Definition
(Adjective) An artist is said to be abstractionist (ex. Arnold Schmidt,Bridget Riley, Juan Miro, Jackson Pollock, Pierre Soulage and others) if he refers only to the variegated forms tending toward beauty - with no ambition for the canvas to simulate reality, thereby abstracting herself him-
self from her observable environment.
Usage: Painters of abstractionist art can often have a link with material reality, albeit seeking a different channel from landscape painters, in fact diverging in their definition of the artistic profession.
