(Noun) Fictional character; Sherlock Holmes's sidekick/semi-amanuensis/catalyst in almost all of A. Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories.Usage: Watson, traditionally perceived by many as a slow-witted bumbler, is however reasonably intelligent - just greatly outshone by Holmes's brilliant "deduction" (it's actually induction) and insight.
