Tub-Thumping
Definition
(Adjective) Tub was also used as a word for the 'pulpit', so a preacher getting excited about the wrath of God and sending you to the fires of hell, and thumping (hitting hard with his hands or a book) the pulpit for extra emphasis, was a said to be a Tub-Thumper.Particularly Methodism and Presbyterian.
Usage: The lecturer gave us a 'tub-thumping presentation,' I've never seen so much energy and enthusiasm before, emphasising every key point with an exclamation and a good thump on the lectern.
