(Abbreviation) A pre-agreed time at which there is an active attempt to make contact (ALERFA) and, in the event of no contact, the Search And Rescue phase begins.

Used in aviation when flying under visual flight rules (VFR), not instrument flight rules (IFR) or full reporting. It is the pilot's job to "cancel SAR" when he or she lands safely.
