(Noun) Japanese 1938 atrocity/war crime. Wave of torture/murder, rape and looting by the Japanese following their December 1937 conquest of the Chinese city of Nanking. Estimates of Chinese deaths vary widely from (Chinese): 300,000-500,000; (Western): 250,000-300,000; (Japanese): six.Usage: Even Nazis on the scene were horrified by the Rape of Nanking - which, after all, took place in only six weeks or so.
