(Noun) A part of the mouthpiece of a woodwind instrument. Usually made of wood. Flutes do not use this piece.
Usage: To play a clarinet you must blow air between the reed and the mouthpiece. For double reeded instrument, such as the bassoon and the oboe, the air must go between the two reeds.
