(Abbreviation) Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter. A PICC is a central venous catheter, inserted through the veins of the arm or leg and advanced near the heart into the distal portion of the Superior or Inferior Vena Cava. Optimal dwell time of a PICC is unknown and PICCs on record have been left in place for more than 5 years with a single PICC.
Usage: The patient required a PICC to safely receive the medications the doctor ordered.
