Morbus Neapolitanus
Definition
An obsolete name for syphilis dating back to a time when that disease was believed to be have originated in a Latin country. Lues was also known as Morbus Gallicus, Morbus Hispanics, Morbus Indicus. The word syphilis first appeared in 1530 in a poem by Girolamo Fracastoro Syphilis sive Morbus Gallicus . See syphilis for synonyms.
