Lindbergh, Charles

Definitions

Lindbergh, Charles rate
(Noun) (1902-1974), American aviator, forever famous for his 1927 NYC-Paris non-stop/solo flight - though our generation can't see what all the fuss was about. Adulation (late 1920s); puzzlement at his pathological hatred of the media (early 1930s); hatred of him because of his increasingly outspoken anti-British/pro-Nazi/anti-Semitic views (late 1930s). Lindbergh couldn't imagine why.
Usage: A rigid/self-righteous/Middle-American/moralizing/priggish/preachy
lower-middle-class man marrying into an upper/class Anglophile family (though self-righteous itself): bliss unlikely. Eventually, Lindbergh's wife disliked him, family despised him - and, it seems, he never noticed.

Lindbergh, Charles rate
(Adult / Slang)
(Noun) Pioneering aviator/anti-Semite/FDR-hater/mass adulterer - he was married to a German woman at the same time he was married to Anne Morrow Lindbergh, for God's sake, and had much casual sex in addition. It wasn't tawdry, but "The Lone Eagle" had feet of clay.
